چکیده
We studied 119 patients with OSAS and 35 controls. Participants were recruited and studied at the sleep unit at Hospital Universitari Son Espases, Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Serum levels of fetuin-A, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, highdensity lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) were determined.

Allopurinol improves endothelial function in sleep apnoea: a randomised controlled study.
Increased oxidative stress in obstructive sleep apnoea is thought to contribute to endothelial dysfunction. The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that inhibition of xanthine oxidase by allopurinol can improve endothelial function in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea. A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled crossover study was performed on 12 patients with moderate-to-...
متن کاملCPAP decreases plasma levels of soluble tumour necrosis factor-alpha receptor 1 in obstructive sleep apnoea.
There is increasing evidence that inflammation plays an important role in the development of cardiovascular complications in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). No previous works have studied levels of soluble tumour necrosis factor-alpha receptor (sTNFR)-1 in patients with OSA. The aims of the present study were to examine serum levels of sTNFR-1 and the effect of nasal continuous po...
متن کاملCirculating KL-6, a biomarker of lung injury, in obstructive sleep apnoea.
In obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), oxidative stress contributes to endothelial dysfunction in the peripheral circulation. In the lung, oxidative stress can lead to alveolar injury. The present authors hypothesised that patients with OSA would have biomarker evidence of increased alveolar wall permeability. Sleep characteristics, brachial artery flow-mediated dilation and plasma KL-6 levels were...
متن کاملEffect of obstructive sleep apnoea on severity and short-term prognosis of acute coronary syndrome.
The goal of this study was to evaluate the influence of obstructive sleep apnoea on the severity and short-term prognosis of patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome. Obstructive sleep apnoea was defined as an apnoea-hypopnoea index (AHI) >15 h(-1). We evaluated the acute coronary syndrome severity (ejection fraction, Killip class, number of diseased vessels, and plasma peak troponin) and ...
متن کاملDecreased plasma levels of nitric oxide derivatives in obstructive sleep apnoea: response to CPAP therapy.
BACKGROUND Reduced endothelium dependent vasodilation has been reported in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) but direct measurements of the most potent naturally occurring vasodilator, nitric oxide (NO) or its derivatives (nitrate and nitrite, NO(x)), have not yet been performed in these patients. METHODS In 21 patients with OSA of mean (SE) age 54 (2) years, body mass index (BMI) ...
